After four seasons away from competition, Andrea Iannone returned to racing in 2024 with the Team GoEleven squad and it was like he’d never been away. Instantly on the podium in Australia, ‘The Maniac’ ended the season with five podiums and one emotional victory at MotorLand Aragon. With more experience under his belt in WorldSBK, what will the #29 be able to achieve in 2025?
Ducati (2024-)
Iannone made his long-awaited comeback to racing in 2024 on a Panigale V4 R and was immediately on the podium in Race 1 at Phillip Island, setting the tone for his season. Four more rostrums followed, including on home soil at Cremona in the Tissot Superpole Race, before his first WorldSBK win at Aragon; a race he controlled through his tyre management strategy. Heading into his second year on Ducati machinery, and remaining with the same team, Iannone will be aiming to add some consistency to his results in his sophomore year.
Before WorldSBK
Iannone claimed four 125cc World Championship wins between 2005 and 2009 before moving into Moto2™ for the 2010 season. He remained there for three seasons and finished third in each one, taking eight wins in total. Despite not being able to take a title, he secured a move to MotoGP™ for 2013 with Pramac Racing, before moving to the Ducati Team outfit for 2015 for two seasons. His first win came in 2016 in Australia before he switched to Suzuki for 2017 and 2018, taking four rostrums in the latter. He spent a season with the Gresini-Aprilia squad but his full-time MotoGP™ career came to an end when he was given a four-year ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), effective from December 17th, 2019.
